ABOUT ME

WHO AM I?
I have always been an avid writer and passionate about journalism. In middle school I was the editor-in-chief of my school magazine, writing about issues around my school and county. Before attending Elon, I attended Montgomery Blair High School where I was in the Communication Arts Magnet Program, a magnet program focused on media and the humanities.
In high school, I wrote for my school newspaper, Silver Chips, as a junior staff writer and I became the news section editor my senior year. I am interested in issues of social justice and would love to work as an investigative journalist. I also speak French fluently and would love to use my language skills professionally. I was born in South Africa and lived there until 2009 when I moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. Being bi-cultural, and bilingual and having traveled, I want to be able to use these skills to work abroad.
At Elon I worked at the Office of University Communications, writing articles for Today at Elon, the university’s news website, and the Magazine of Elon. I also help with social media coverage for events on campus, taking photos and uploading posts. Occasionally, I write for Elon's newspaper, The Pendulum. I was also the Executive Director for Campus Kitchen, a service organization where we harvest food and prepare meals for those in need in the Burlington Area, from 2020 to 2022.
In the summer of 2020, I interned with PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs, where I edited videos, produced content for social media and tracked their social media accounts. Even though it was a remote experience, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Through Student Reporting Labs, I learned how education and journalism intersect. I got to strengthen my video editing skills through Adobe Premiere and learn more about how organizations use social media to connect with their audiences.
